You might have watched the movie The Bucket List, where a terminally ill patient, played by Jack Nicholson, makes a list of all the things he wants to do before the end. But why wait until something like that happens to try something you always wanted? Why not create a bucket list today? Write up all the things that have been on your mind since forever and let the magic happen. If you’re not that easily convinced, read on to learn more about the life-altering power of bucket lists.
Taking the Steps toward Living the Life You Want
You always had a vision of what your life should look like. Then, everyday obligations, work, and stress derailed that idea and even made you think it’s impossible. But nothing is impossible!
The bucket list makes you look at the life that you are living and the life you would like to live. It can motivate you to make some changes geared towards that vision you’ve always had. And goals are only wishes until they’re written down. That is a very important step because once they start existing on paper, beyond the boundaries of your thoughts, you will find yourself more motivated to complete them.
When you have a list, there are so many things to look forward to. And that’s a wonderful thing. Not to mention that it will push you out of your comfort zone. It can be a scary place, but there’s no growth without pushing the limit within yourself. And when you are out of your comfort zone, the possibilities are endless. Climbing Mount Everest? Why not? There are no more unattainable dreams, and as people like to say, the sky’s the limit.
And then there’s that feeling of satisfaction when you check all the things you’ve accomplished. The entire list represents your growth over time, where you can literally see the progress. From there, you can learn a lot about yourself, who you are, and who you want to be. You can learn which way you want to grow and that “the impossible” is just one more thing to check off from your list.
What Should You Write on Your Bucket List?
Everything you ever wanted! It can include travel destinations, career advancements, personal growth ideas — whatever will make you happy and fulfilled. Maybe you want to open your own business, learn a new language, graduate from college, or simply spend the holidays with your family. It can be big, and it can be small. But then again, that’s all in the eyes of the beholder. Sometimes, calling someone on the phone can be a huge thing. So adapt it to your own needs and sensitivity. It doesn’t have to be as exotic as swimming with sharks — but if you want to, go for that!
The bucket list can have ten or ten hundred items on it; it’s all up to you. And the fun part about it is that it’s always going to grow. As soon as you step into your list, you’re going to realize how beautiful the world is and how much you want to experience it. You can start by making one for this year. Include all of the things you would like to accomplish in 2023, and by the end of the year, you’ll be celebrating some wonderful accomplishments.
If you’re not certain where to start when it comes to ideas, you can always ask your friends and family about their wishes and dreams. Find out what makes them happy, what destination is their favorite, and what experiences wowed. You can even google some bucket list ideas to help you get started, or you can even just pick a destination based on flight price and see where the adventure takes you. In the end, it should be your unique personal journey, led by your own needs. So, when you look at it at the end, it will reflect you.
And here is one handy tip: always carry around a little notebook where you can write all the ideas that come across your mind. The ideas will start pouring once you start thinking in the bucket list way, so you should be armed and prepared.

Make your goals big, bold, and beautiful! Take chances, explore the unexplored, and give yourself the option to live and grow and change. But don’t forget to enjoy the process along the way. Because half of the beauty is in planning and waiting for those special moments to come.
