With spring now in full swing, you may feel the urge to dive in and deep clean your home and revitalize your personal life. Take advantage of these warmer and longer days and use them to wipe away any signs of winter. Hygge, pronounced hoo-gah, is of Dutch origin and refers to a lifestyle of comfort, coziness and overall well being. Hygge is the perfect format to follow to help you bring serenity and comfort to your everyday life.
Tidy up
Tidying up may seem like a daunting task; however, as you begin the process, you will soon see the benefits to re-organizing and tidying up. Decluttered and clean spaces make way for clear thinking and overall peace of mind. Be sure to block out a day or two for this process and remember to take your time.
First, check expiration dates on all of your makeup, beauty products, and food items in your fridge and pantry and toss out expired items. Make a list of the things you’ve tossed so that you can replace them when you are ready.
Next, go through your closets and see what is worth keeping and what can be donated to your local charity center. Maximize your closet space by getting rid of unwanted items to make way for your new fulfilling clothing that you’ll actually find joy in and wear. Gather your unwanted items and head to your local charity center to make a well-welcomed donation.
Lastly, we all have those one or two (maybe three) drawers that we use to dump needed knick-knacks in, so take some time out and use a drawer organizer to keep order. Designate each space by item category which will make your scramble, go-to drawers more functional so that it can take the stress out of finding what you need in the moment.
Make your spaces cozy
Spruce up your living spaces with inexpensive pieces that will make your rooms complete.
Candles and lamps are great ways to create intimate lighting for your seating areas and allow you to control the mood in each room. Aromatherapy candles especially are great for creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Pick out a few throw blankets in pops of color to place over your armchair or at the foot of your bed for an additional cozy layer. Throw covers are also perfect for movie nights and snuggle time with your lover or fur buddy.
Everyone needs that one staple piece of furniture, an affordable and comfortable place to sit at the end of a long day. Whether it’s adding on to your current living room selection or creating a new nook within an unused space in your home, make sure that it fits your theme and style in your home.
Practice mindfulness
Due to the hustle and bustle of the world we live in today, it can be difficult to practice mindfulness. However, you owe it to yourself to embrace who you are and take solace in where you are as much as possible. A great way to start would be practicing mindfulness when you eat and drink. You may realize that you need to incorporate more veggies into your diet or just cut back on your alcohol intake and drink more water. Those simple changes can quickly improve your mood and health.
Meditation is also a great addition to practicing mindfulness and connecting with your inner thoughts and reflecting on your day. Taking a few moments out of your day to meditate can keep you calm and help you make more mindful decisions in all aspects of your life.
This season, spend more time finding the joy in the little things and release your life of any toxic habits and relationships for instant gratification.
