Despite the benefits of going to the gym, many people don’t have the time to exercise because of their busy lifestyles or because of the cost. However, going to the gym is not always the only option if you want to get in shape. There are several other ways you can stay healthy and in shape. We do some of these things every day and do not realize that if we focus more on them they are a much healthier option for exercise than going to the gym. Some of these include:
Walking
Walking is not only a form of exercise but can also save gas money and improve your physical and psychological well-being. Going for a walk for only 30 minutes a day can make a big difference in your cardiovascular fitness, bone strength, and body fat reduction. It also helps in boosting your muscle power and endurance.
Walking also helps in reducing certain health conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and a few types of cancer. The best part about walking is that it doesn’t require any special kind of training or equipment except comfortable walking shoes. If you have a small park near your home that’s even better since taking a walk through nature is known to lower your stress levels after a tiring day.
Take the stairs
We know that taking the elevator may save you some time, but taking the stairs can make a big difference in your health. Still, most of the time we’re too tired or too lazy to do it. But, there are a lot of reasons why taking stairs should become your daily activity if you want to be more energetic and be in shape. Moreover, health experts, from “Verywell Health” claim that taking the stairs burns more calories per minute than jogging while being easier on the joints.
Start small, for example, if you live on the sixth floor then go up the stairs for at least two floors before taking the elevator and then start adding in the floors until you get more comfortable climbing all six floors.
Biking
Biking as an exercise is known to help with both your physical and mental health, it also helps you sleep better so it’s a good exercise to try to do daily. If you want to be in shape, you should also consider buying an electric bike kit. An electric bike helps you achieve the same health benefits as going to the gym.
Furthermore, electric bikes are more effective in boosting your fitness levels than walking. It allows you to get the same level of exercise as with a traditional bike but without trying as hard because of its built-in pedal assistance. Electric bikes are considered to be in the same category as regular bikes, as you are not obligated to get license plates, a driver’s license, or insurance.
Dancing
Moving around comfortably sounds like fun. Many people dance because it gives you instant joy but also tones your entire body, making you physically fit. You don’t need special training or equipment; just turn on your favorite music and dance where you feel comfortable.
A 30-minute dance could burn between 150 and 250 calories, about the same as jogging. If you want to make it more advanced then there are different types of group dancing exercises you can join into and have a way more fun and intense exercise while maybe even making new friends.
Boxing
Boxing is another way to train your body and mind at the same time, and the best part about it is that you don’t have to go to a gym. You can try a beginner boxing workout in the comfort of your home using your body weight. You should first warm up by doing a rope-less classic jump rope.
Start by jumping in place, then moving your arms in circular motions as though you are holding a jump rope. You can start your workout session after the warmup. After a while you’ll be able to get some boxing equipment at home or even join a boxing gym to further practise this sport. Health experts say that boxing burns up to 600 calories an hour while sculpting your arms, shoulders, core, and legs.
Yoga and Meditation
Practicing yoga daily is good for your body, mind, and soul. The twisting, stretching, and folding of a yoga practice help build a good digestive system, lymphatic circulation, and other health benefits.
A few yoga exercises will make you sweat within minutes, making you burn calories. You don’t need special equipment except for a yoga mat or a thick sheet to separate you from the floor while practicing yoga.
Meditation is also a form of exercise that anyone can do to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health. You can meditate anywhere, without any special equipment or membership.
Meditation is practiced to address different mental and physical conditions, such as anxiety, pain, depression, emotional problems, insomnia, and stress. You simply need to sit in a quiet place uninterrupted for about 20 minutes and start breathing. You will instantly feel calmer, happier, and content, and your body will feel lighter. Putting on some calming music or nature sounds also helps with focusing and relaxing. A lot of yoga teachers also practice different breathing techniques that will help you feel more relaxed and grounded, making it easier for you to focus on the moment rather than worry about the past or future.
